A website that makes critical conversions, searchability effortless for families in need

We designed a clearer path to supporting those who need it most

At some point, businesses and organisations come to realise that their website is not helping them or the people they seek to serve in line with brand expectations. Ideally action can be taken prior to that realisation affecting engagement, reputation and of course, the bottom line. Our client Redkite made the timely decision to engage our services so they could better serve families affected by cancer – with stunning results.

Redkite is an Australian cancer charity dedicated to providing emotional support, financial assistance and vital information to help families deal with childhood cancer.  They have three very distinct and diverse audiences including families (Redkite’s clients), health professionals, and supporters but therein lies the challenge. With the steady increase in the amount of services, information and resources for their audiences, everything seemed a little harder to find than it needed to be.

User expectations demand clear, easy-to-follow pathways to resources, services and the ability to make donations. For around 15 years, Redkite’s previous website offered an online library containing forms, commentary and support mechanisms however, the digital architecture desperately needed updating.

BJM are amazing to work with. Ben and Ash worked with us in true partnership applying their UX expertise to our business needs and delivering a quality product. With BJM there was no problem too hard to solve. Their communication and transparency are excellent and they are very receptive to feedback. They truly helped make a complex process as simple as it could be.”

Our Brief – Enable and accelerate user-friendly engagements

Redkite’s mission is to be there with real emotional, financial and practical support for families who have a child with cancer (aged 18 and under). Ours was to build that digital bridge between their platform and mission, and their end-users.

In other words, we needed to create a brand-fit, UX tailored to the needs of end-users that could facilitate accelerated and valuable engagements – put simply:

  • Donors downloading resources, making contact with Redkite and making donations
  • Clients making use of the available resources and actually making contact with Redkite
  • Healthcare professionals downloading required resources and referring clients

Importantly, the website we created needed to stand Redkite in good stead well into the future.

Our Solution

This project ticked many boxes for us because here at BJM we are known for pragmatic and forward-thinking solutions and this challenging brief asked us to:

  • ensure that users onsite achieve their goals at a higher rate
  • drive information architecture to deliver improved onsite resource management
  • create a positive experience that resonates with users both during and after site engagement

However, the success in driving a tangible increase in engagement with the website was due to adherence to our detailed, tried and proven project components:

  • Strategic Workshop
  • User Journey Mapping
  • Information Architecture
  • UX Design (Wireframes & Prototypes)
  • Custom Development
  • Testing
  • SEO Compliance

Once the due diligence and frameworks were firmly in place, we set about creating clean, impactful and functional content and imagery that supported the goal of the section represented. Our experience and expertise in project management, working collaboratively and focusing on the end-user enabled us to bring the project to life and into the lives that would benefit most.

Redkite’s new digital home is better for them and the many people they support

Transporting an imposing library of resources, functions and processes from an older website that had long since been superseded in terms of effectiveness to a custom designed and built platform was a welcome challenge. The project successfully delivered to Redkite three more significant benefits:

  • A magnetic digital presence that makes it easier for people to achieve what needs to be done
  • Digital “wayfinding” that assisted with and accelerated resource delivery for end-users be they:
    • Donors looking to make a vital contribution
    • Administrators and health care personnel working to lessen the burden on patients and their families
    • Families sourcing resources to support and inform appropriate strategies and actions
  • Project management that kept all participants up-to-date on progress against timelines

The planning, execution and functionality ensured that the designed solution, the Redkite website, was an operational success. The key for us was the enormous amount of work put into understanding the information, the various user journeys and expectations. Only by working so closely with the teams at Redkite could we have helped achieved this result.
